We loved the beautiful ocean views and quiet setting. What a great place to escape the busy life in Honolulu. The place was spotless and everything was so well kept. Thank you for sharing your second home with us. My husband and I are already looking forward to coming back.

A World Away

So you wanna’ go and visit the Big Island of Hawaii and get away from it all………So did we; but here’s the twist…….. We live here in the island state. Hawaii Island is a cool hundred miles and change away from our Oahu Island digs and at the very same time a seemingly world apart.. The Big Island possesses a truly unique connection to its waterborne Earth and the all encompassing seascape that surrounds it.. Such is especially evidenced on the Windward/Hilo side of the Island, affording a connection with nature likely not found to such a degree elsewhere. By my take, Nature’s plans for the Big Island of Hawaii are still under construction; something you can see for yourself at Volcanoes National Park not unreasonably far from the vacation rental. Imagine if you can what Rick and Chris have created here…. a self sustaining Utopia of sorts; off the electrical grid, they make their own power, having gas powered cooking, batteries to store all the energy they generate from solar-voltaic collectors, solar hot water and a 12vold European style refrigerator. You can’t get much ‘greener’ than that folks! Their chosen thirteen acre location in Lapahoehoe plays perfectly upon the fine line of isolation and social contact. If you get the urge to mingle, Hilo town is a mere half hour drive, replete with all the restaurants and country entertainment that one could wish for. Don’t miss a stay here…….. Rest assured, you will be in for the experience of a lifetime. Aloha, Mark & Cindy Fragale Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii .

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT green tech view house so quiet you can hear yourself think. An ocean view into infinity, all the comforts of home with virtually no carbon footprint...several bedrooms. i could not resist sleeping outside in the covered lanai to catch the first light of each new day... such rejuvenation... AWESOME!!!

Awesome Home - Awesome Spot

Perfect property to rent for a getaway. Fully off the grid, yet fully stocked - this is an awesome, brand new renovated home. The views are great - super secluded, no neighbors, nice walks, amazing fruit trees on property to pick from, horses around, sweeping views of the ocean....epic.

Beautiful, Newly Renovated, Panoramic Ocean View

One word to express my vacation at Laupahoehoe is "tranquility”. I just sat back on the porch and enjoyed the view, the quiet and the fresh air . The house was immaculate, super clean and no clutter! The kitchen had all the appliances needed when we cooked. I thought I might miss the TV, but I got all the news I need by phone. The rainbows were spectacular.
Once I was will rested, I was ready to explore my sounding environment, hiking, swimming, shopping and eating. I loved Hilo's open market and a nice variety of unusual healthy foods. The 50's restaurant at the bottom of the hill was my favorite. The restaurant is loaded with 50's memorabilia and the staff was very friendly.
I highly recommend a stay here. Living off the grid was a wonderful experience!

What a surprise to find such a beautiful and well appointed property off grid. You can tell a lot of care and thought went into your property's tranformation. I am hoping to be able to come back next year.

Great House and location
|
|
We visited with our two kids ages 8 & 10. The property is fantastic, great views, fruit trees, waterfalls. The house is very clean and comfortable, and the location was peaceful and centrally located for exploring around the island. The Laupahoehoe area is beautiful and lush, but we also enjoyed exploring an hour drive to sunny beaches/snorkeling or an hour drive to Volcanos Park. A great family experience. We didn't want to leave!

A Piece of Heaven on the Big Island

This property is nothing but spectacular. 2 very roomy bedrooms with comfortable beds, plus a very nice loft for the kiddies to have hours of fun make this property ideal for any traveler in the eastern part of the big island. the owner is very generous with nice kitchenware, everyday food items like cooking oil etc. and glasses and utencils. it is very easy to recommend this property with 180+ degrees ocean views, new bathrooms, new kitchen and deck and a pleasant owner. we wished we had stayed a few extra days after getting there.

This rental has awesome views across the open pastures, leading toward the open seas. Its a great place to relax and unwind, away from big resorts and busy towns. We enjoyed our stay, and felt very comfortable on the property. Highly recommended.

A Peaceful Escape
|
|
Our stay at your Hamakua Green House was ideal as a peaceful escape. Each day we curtailed our sightseeing trips in order to return to our lanai for the last few hours before sunset. The off-grid property was well organized and allowed us to easily adapt to energy conservation. In fact, we were so impressed with its efficiency that we will try to make some adjustments to our home in SC. The breeze through the house was constant, and thanks to the constantly changing weather, we enjoyed exquisite rainbows, often doubles. Also, I couldn’t resist sampling the “fallen” oranges and limes that grow in the front yard; they were delightful. We’ve rented many homes both in the US and New Zealand, and the Green House was one of our favorites.

What a Spot!

Had the best sleep in over twenty years. So peacefull. No amount of superlatives will cover this property, location, presentation etc. Terrific communication with Rick. Even returned Ann's necklace which was accidently left behind. Can't recommend the expierience highly enough. Oh yeh! Hawaiian courtesy & manners topped up our terrific first visit to this wonderful island. Thank you Rick.
