Oil Spill Affects Bookings
7/8/2010
Unfortunately many Vacation Rental owners and managers have been affected by the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Travel and tourism in the Gulf Coast States like Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have been hit hard by the BP Oil Spill and are seeing negative impacts on travel. In light of the situation many local tourist attractions are offering discounts and specials to encourage vacationers to visit the area.
What can you do to get bookings during this time? There are a number of things that vacation rental owners and managers can do to encourage travelers to visit the area. One way is to offer a special or promotion; for example, stay four nights get one free or book five nights and receive two free passes to a local attraction. Another important thing to encourage travel is to alter your cancellation policy to meet the current conditions. You should also consider offering a money-back guarantee to travelers to make them feel more comfortable booking the rental.
Although several beaches have been impacted by the oil spill along the Gulf Coast, many beaches have not been. Continue to promote your vacation rentals and communication frequently with your potential renters. Encourage travelers to check out your area’s local tourism website for updated information on the affects of the oil spill.
